The Simple Things I Appreciate Most
I love the color of the sky when the sun hits the horizon. I love the colorful flowers that blooms in the Spring. In fall, I love when the leaves slowly fall off the trees and cover the ground with maple colors. I love dogs, especially Penny, my family’s chihuahua mix. I love the feeling of the cold wind in my face when it is hot outside. I love walking by the bay and just admiring everything that I see. And I love being with my family when I’m free. All these things I realized and experienced here in San Diego and I am always thankful to the Lord for these blessings.
The top picture was taken at school grounds. I was working on a project and I decided to take this photo.
Another sunset look of the sky. I don't know what it is about the sky that I never get tired of looking at. This is in Mission Bay. I was walking with my sister and a friend at this moment.
A little background about me is that I grew up in the
Philippines and that I moved here in San Diego when I was 18 years old, about 4
years ago. I cannot believe that it has been that long already! During those
years, I experienced many new things and I have learned to appreciate the
little things. As you might already know, Philippines is so much different than
San Diego. From the culture, people, environment, food, and weather. But it
didn’t take me long to be able to adjust to the culture here. I experienced my many
firsts here including: my first job, cruise, hike, owning a car, and more. After
about a year after moving here, I started school and from there I also started
to become more outgoing.

I love the lavender color of the flowers or leaves in here. I took this picture as I was waiting for the bus to go to work.
I think that I took this photo from the backyard of my step-grandma. It looks like the sun is peeking at you doesn't it?
I love the look of the condensation in the windows. I could smell the morning air just by looking at this picture.
Whenever I took the bus to work and to school (since I didn’t know how to drive yet at the time), I always feel thankful for being able to look at the beautiful environment. Up until now, I still get mesmerized by the seasonal changes I see in San Diego. I love looking at the trees and sky whenever I walk outside. I smile when I see any tiny animals like birds, butterflies, and snails minding their own business. I often find myself just looking at things and think how lucky I am to be able to see these things.

Hi MaryC!
ReplyDeleteI was really able to imagine the experiences you were describing in you memoir. Ever since I moved to San Diego, I keep thinking to myself why any one would want to leave. I love travel as much as the next person but I also believe San Diego is a gift to us on a whole other level. Just walking outside of my house I get an incredible view and it blows my mind every time. I love going to La Jolla coves and every sunset is unique and incredible there. When I had a dog, I often took him to the bog beach in fiesta island and every season there was something else to see there and it felt like I was exploring new land very time.

ReplyDeleteI loved how I was able to actually picture many of the examples of wonder because of your amazingly effective narration. I can entirely understand the culture shock that it must've been coming from the Philipines to the U.S.; thankfully, you landed in what is one of the most incredible cities in our entire country.
ReplyDeleteThe sunsets in San Diego our breath-taking and the sheer expanse of scenery that California offers is mind-blowing. I hope you continue to look at the world through lenses of wonder and you keep chasing your dreams.
Keep posting pictures of your awesome dog Penny!
Your very first photo got my attention quickly and I caught myself staring at it for a little while. I really like it so good job on that! San Diego is a really cool place to live in, although sometimes we take it for granted but we should all be thankful to be living here with the nice weather and beautiful sunsets we have along the Bay. We are very lucky, to see such beautiful creatures doing their own things and as you said, minding their own business. I too smile as well then I watch animals in their natural habitat. I'm sure you haven't explored all of San Diego, am I right? Because I'm sure I haven't even though I lived here all my life! But there's no rush in exploring, just need to take your time at your own pace. Also, your dog Penny is SOOO CUTE! I work at a Doggy Day-Care and I love dogs. She seems like a Chihuahua mixed with a Pit Bull indeed, and maybe a little bit of Jack Russell in there somewhere? She's really adorable though!

Mary, I love your memoir, and I adore your first photo. The image, combined with the memoir, spark so many idea in my head and make me think about the things I appreciate in life. They make me remember when I lived in a climate with a true autumn, how crisp the air felt walking home from school, the crunch of leaves under my feet.
ReplyDeleteSigh. Thank you.
Hello Mary,
ReplyDeleteThis memoir has been such a vivid experience to read. The imagery you show and describe even complement the aesthetic layout of your blogspot; it truly relaxes the mind. I also have been starting to appreciate the beauty of nature and the architecture of the towns I visit. As an introverted teen I used to pay no mind to the environment around me. However recently, after becoming an adult, I've started to think I'm growing up too fast, and have been missing out on all the little blessings in life. I'm now starting to appreciate the nature around me as well as the culture and art that San Diego offers. I look forward to viewing some more beautiful imagery you have to offer this semester.
